Freezing Baby Bliss
As a passionate Lactation Consultant and Neonatal Nurse, I have found myself exploring all the possibilities of preserving breastmilk after having my first child. My original intentions were just to preserve my own milk, but after seeing so many mothers wanting the same thing for a more affordable price I started offering my services to other moms. I am excited to share my knowledge and experience with other mothers and help them preserve every drop of breastmilk they want for a variety of different reasons!
Freeze drying breast milk involves freezing the milk and then removing the water content through a process called sublimation, resulting in preserved nutrients and longer shelf life. The result is breastmilk in powdered form, which is similarly used like formula when reconstituting. This can make it simpler to travel with, use outside the home and will be shelf stable for 3 years preserving the fat, vitamins, antibodies and other important nutrients in breastmilk better than storing in a deep freezer.
